/ 7 April 2010 --The Clean Water America Alliance is a
newly formed organization focused on the promotion of water sustainability and
the development of a viable national water policy to better address the
provision of clean safe water for future generations.
The Clean Water America Alliance (CWAA) is
working today to explore the complex issue of designing/establishing a viable
water sustainability plan for the future by improving public awareness in the
advancement of holistic,
watershed-based approaches to water quality and quantity challenges.
A
broad cross-section of interests have come together through the Alliance to
begin an important dialogue on the future – specifically focused on:
exploring and analyzing issues of critical importance that are linked to the
nation’s ability to provide clean and safe water to future generations,
offering information and education to citizens and policy-makers on key
issues, and recognizing organizations and individuals for innovation and
outstanding achievements within the water quality and quantity arena.
Since
its public launch in September 2008, the Alliance has worked with excitement
and enthusiasm to identify and implement specific strategic programs and
initiatives that support its essential objectives.
The Alliance recently hosted
a two-day National Dialogue program (in Washington DC) that brought together
over 50 water industry experts and practitioners to debate and review the
issues associated with the value of water. Dialogue participants
included representatives from the legal community, private sector equipment
suppliers, engineering firms, consulting firms, public officials, and
local/state/federal authorities.
Entitled “What’s Water Worth (W3)?”, this
second National Dialogue of the Alliance recognized the need for the country
to begin to succinctly re-evaluate how we use water as a result of regional
population increases, challenges associated with climate change, and the
evolving energy-water nexus. A key mission of this second National
Dialogue - to advance the vision for the establishment of an integrated
national water policy.
An earlier inaugural National Dialogue,
hosted in the Fall 2009, centered around the topic of water sustainability.
The next major event of
the Clean Water America Alliance will serve as the launch of the Business
Advisory Council. As envisioned, the Business Advisory Council will
provide a forum for forward-thinking business and industry partners to explore
water sustainability and infrastructure challenges as well as establish new
collaborations to promote the development of a national water policy. The
Honorable Sherwood Boehert, former Chair of the House Science and Technology
Committee and the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee, will serve as
the Honorary Chair for the Council’s inaugural meeting.
In
addition to influencing industry trends and policy changes, members of the
Business Advisory Council will reap significant benefits that include:
-
Partnering
with key sector players such as agriculture, energy, mining, non-profit
organizations, and others who contribute to the establishment of
significant viable water management practices;
-
Gaining
exclusive access to stakeholder groups that only the Clean Water America
Alliance can bring together in order to better break down sector lines and
effectively address the unique needs associated with the management of our
nation's water resources;
-
Serving
as a sounding board for the Clean Water America Alliance's Board of
Directors;
-
Showcasing
technology innovations and solutions to meet 21st century water
sustainability challenge;
-
Securing
increased public visibility and recognition of industry actions for
achieving water sustainability and stewardship. The Council will
seek to provide credibility, generate visibility, and establish a national
presence for the water sustainability programs and activities of
responsible companies and industry groups;
-
Reducing
risks due to improved understanding of clean water issues and improved
relationships with key stakeholders;
-
Gaining
knowledge of cutting-edge and timely clean water topics such as green
infrastructure, water reuse, the energy-water nexus, climate change;
-
Learning
about best practices to better address water sustainability, water
efficiency, and water resource management issues.
The
inaugural meeting of the Business Advisory Council is scheduled for April 14,
2010 from 8:30 am until 12:00 noon US EastCoast time at the law offices of
Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP in Washington DC.
