September 2008 --The World Policy Institute, a non-partisan source of
progressive global policy analysis and thought leadership for more than four
decades, has named David A. Andelman as the new editor of World
Policy Journal.
Founded
independently in 1961, the World Policy Institute was part of The New School
from 1991 until November 2007, when it was re-established as an autonomous
organization. The institute's flagship quarterly, World
Policy Journal, celebrates its 25th anniversary in Fall 2008. The
Journal is distinguished by articles written in a lively, non-academic style,
coming from strong points of view that transcend the traditional
foreign-versus-domestic policy divide. WPJ's progressive global outlook
challenges conventional wisdom, seeks out new voices, and explores crucial but
underreported global issues. WPJ is distributed by MIT Press Journals.
"David
Andelman brings assets including a wide range of international experience,
tremendous energy, a collegial spirit, and a deep respect for the World Policy
Journal's record of identifying new writers and ideas," said Michele
Wucker, executive director of the World Policy Institute.
Most
recently executive editor at Forbes.com, Mr. Andelman is a veteran journalist
and editor who has reported from more than 50 countries for The
New York Times, CBS News, CNBC and other news organizations. He is the
author of three books, most recently A
Shattered Peace: Versailles 1919 and the Price We Pay Today (Wiley,
2007), an examination of the global consequences for today’s world of the
errors committed by peacemakers nearly a century ago.
"In
these difficult times, America and the world need the kind of fresh,
independent and creative voice represented by World Policy Journal," said
David Andelman. "I am delighted to take on the challenge of building the
journal and its website into a powerful community of unique and exciting
voices from every continent discussing contemporary problems, their origins
and their solutions."
Mr.
Andelman, WPJ's fourth editor, succeeds Karl E. Meyer, who has edited WPJ
since 2000. Mr. Meyer's twelfth book, Kingmakers:
The Invention of the Modern Middle East, is being published this month
by W.W. Norton. The late James Chace was editor from 1993-2000,
succeeding WPJ's founding editor, Sherle Schwenninger, who remains a senior
fellow at the World Policy Institute.

The
World Policy Institute develops and champions innovative policies that require
a progressive and global point of view. In an increasingly interdependent
world, WPI focuses on complex challenges that demand cooperative policy
solutions to achieve: an inclusive and sustainable global market economy,
engaged global civic participation and effective governance, and collaborative
approaches to national and global security. WPI's Fellows program,
regular public and private events, collaborative policy development, media
activities, and flagship World Policy Journal provide a forum for
solution-focused policy analysis and public debate. Its programs seek to
introduce fresh ideas and new voices from around the world on critical shared
global issues including migration, climate change, technology, economic
development, human rights, and counter-terrorism. For more information,
