George
Clooney is not only a talented and acclaimed actor and director, but a
dedicated international activist. He has been a long time advocate for
Darfur
, working to bring the atrocities there to the attention of people around the
world. Clooney was a founder of "Not on Our Watch" a nonprofit
organization comprised of people in the arts. Its mission is to spotlight
violence and brutality around the globe and has been an important donor to UN
programs. He was also executive producer of the film "Sand and
Sorrow" on the situation in
Darfur
and has traveled several times to the war-torn region. In January 2008,
Clooney was one of eight notables named UN Messengers of Peace.
