- 13 September 2007 – Government
and academic experts from around the world will examine ways to improve urban
water management at an international symposium that started yesterday at the Paris
headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO).
The three-day
symposium, organized by the agency’s International Hydrological Programme,
will look at new proposals and technologies for dealing with the growing
pressure on freshwater supplies, the poor administration of existing water
resources and the general degradation of the environment.
The symposium will hear
contributions from the heads of nine projects that the Programme has coordinated
since 2002, while urban water management officials from countries ranging from
Iran and Oman to France, Serbia and Uganda will also brief the meeting.
The International
Hydrological Programme is an intergovernmental scientific programme designed to
help countries improve their knowledge of the water cycle so they can better
manage and develop their water resources and protect the environment.
