STANLEY
FOUNDATION/KQED RADIO DOCUMENTARY ON ARAB MEDIA WINS TOP NATIONAL

A public radio documentary produced by the Stanley
Foundation and KQED Public Radio
has won a top 2007 National Press Club Award.

“24/7:
The Rise and Influence of Arab Media” was awarded the National Press
Club’s Edwin M. Hood Award for Diplomatic Correspondence.
Kristin McHugh
and Keith Porter of
Muscatine
and Simon Marks of Washington, DC, produced the documentary.

The
honor marks the second straight year a Stanley Foundation/KQED Public Radio
program has earned the Edwin M. Hood Award for Diplomatic
Correspondence.

“Security
Check: Confronting Today’s Global Threats,” was awarded the same honor
in 2006.
The
National Press Club, a Washington-based group comprised of nearly 4,000 members
who work in journalism and communications, evaluated 193 entries in a total of
25 categories.
“There
is an overwhelming amount of great journalism produced in this country, and this
year, as always, the National Press Club is thrilled to be able to honor the
best of the best,” said Jerry Zremski, Washington, DC, bureau chief for The
Buffalo News and the club’s president.
The
awards will be formally presented at a National Press Club dinner in
Washington
,
DC
, on July 16.
Recent
winners of the Hood Award include Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw, and Fareed Zakaria.

Released
in April 2006, "24/7: The Rise and Influence of Arab Media" examines
the dramatic expansion of open media in the Arab world. The program was hosted
by David Brancaccio of public television’s NOW. Sam
Litzinger of Washington Post Radio also contributed to the program.
