STEPHEN
SCHLESINGER: WHO IS KILLING AMERICAN SOLDIERS IN IRAQ? (MaximsNews.com,

July 2007 – The Bush Administration has made a well-known
stink over the alleged involvement of the Iranians in the killing of American
soldiers in Iraq through the use of Iranian manufactured roadside bombs.
|
Yet
in the last few weeks, the US military has published statistics showing that
at least half of the suicide bombers in Iraq that wound, maim and murder our
troops come from that great US ally, Saudi Arabia.
Which
raises the question -- why does the US media not give more attention to this
fact -- or, furthermore, to the question of whom is providing the overall
support to the main body of the Sunni insurgents in Iraq whom have proven to
be so recklessly violent in their indiscriminate slaughter of Shiites, Kurds
and yes American soldiers?
|
|
Most observers
conclude that the bulk of the funding for these Sunni combatants is coming
from sympathizers in neighboring Sunni nations like Saudi Arabia, Jordan,
Syria and Egypt.
Why do we not hear
more about this situation?
And why is the US
government not doing more to condemn those states for permitting such
financing to continue?
The most likely reason is that the
Bush Administration wants the American media to concentrate all of its ire on
Iran in order to lay the grounds for an eventual US air assault on that nation
sometime before Bush's term in office ends and meantime does not wish to
alienate America's so-called "allies" in the region.
So Washington simply overlooks -- or
denies -- the obvious and does so with the tacit concurrence of the American
media.
