Emyr Jones Parry, Britain's ambassador to the United Nations departed
New York on 15 August 2007 on retirement from the UK Diplomatic Service.
The ambassador has
been the UK Permanent Representative to the UN since 2003 where he has dealt
with many difficult and important issues of war and peace in the Security
Council.

Parry recently sat down with CBS UN correspondent Frank Ucciardo to talk about
some of the those key issues as well as his own career and the future of the
United Nations.

Sir
Emyr was born on 21 September 1947 in Carmarthen, Wales.
He
was educated at Gwendraeth Grammar School. He attended University College
Cardiff, where he read Theoretical Physics. He subsequently gained a PhD in
Polymer Physics at St Catharine's College, University of Cambridge.
Sir
Emyr is married to Lady Jones Parry (née Lynn Noble) and they have 2 sons, Paul
and Mark.
